The flute gives Miss Kingfisher her beautiful voice. There are many different kinds of flute played in different countries all over the world. The flute that you can hear being played in Miss Kingfisher is an Irish or wooden flute which, like the name suggests, is normally made of wood rather than the flutes seen in classical music and orchestras which are made of metals like silver or nickel.

The type of melody you can hear is called a Polka. The Polka is another type of tune which doesn’t originally come from Scotland. A dance which originated in the 19th Century in what is now the Czech Republic, Polkas quickly became popular across Europe and America, and are now quite commonly played by traditional musicians in Scotland and especially Ireland.
